Water Soaked Pajamas
Original Poetry by Tom Browning
You look like Death
has warmed you over
tumblin through your life like that
(wasting every moment somewhere else)
you look like life has
run you down racing around the same ole track

Jumpin off every boulder
thrashing with the current event
life’s not in the scheme of things
would you see a sunny day
even if it rains?
You look like water soaked pajamas
flapping on the drying line
in some backyard near Takoma
At times you laugh a wind
that carries hunger on its edge
Run off now and hide your habits
pull the window shades way low
listen to the morning traffic
It’s live where you live
wind down the wind
you try and talk
with all the words
you’ve written in your brain
and say the things that must be said
so you won’t go insane
I haven’t heard it all before
I don’t know what you mean
you listen more than ears can hear
So make a peace
you know will last
and go about your day
you look like water soaked pajamas
tumblin through your life that way
